Individual counseling
Individual counseling is a meaningful process of self-discovery, growth, and healing. People come to therapy for a variety of reasons. I specialize in working with people navigating anxiety, depression, and trauma recovery. Between the demands of work, family, and life management, it is not uncommon for anxiety and depression to become overwhelming. I understand what it is like to experience this. I draw from a variety of therapeutic methods and tools to address:
anxiety
depression
perfection
sleep challenges
motivation or feeling stuck
I have specialized training in trauma therapies to support those who have had traumatic experiences that continue to negatively impact life and impairing how we see ourselves and the environments we live in. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and TRM (Trauma Resiliency Method) to specifically address the psychological and physiological impacts of trauma, and will nurture a more regulated and resilient nervous system. This, coupled with traditional therapies (and sometimes exercise!), will help re-establish a sense of safety and agency in how you live, play, and interact with the world.
trauma-Informed exercise
Trauma dysregulates the nervous system, narrowing our Window of Tolerance, and leading to a constant sense of overwhelm, difficulty in effectively managing emotions, and thinking and focus challenges. Trauma also robs a person of agency and connection, questioning a sense of safety and leaving them feeling helpless and alone.
Building physical strength is a parallel pathway to mental and emotional strength. It is a direct illustration of strength and courage and pathway to embodiment of such characteristics.
Trauma Informed Exercise nurtures the following:
Awareness and Orientation
Embodied/Intentional Movement
Agency
Consent & Boundaries
Re-establish healthy relationships with self and others
Build upon post-traumatic growth responses
Exercise can heal the physiological and psychological impacts of trauma. Discover what strength and power feel like. Reconnect with yourself so you can engage with your life in a more purposeful and meaningful way.
Exercise for anxiety & depression
Chronic stress does not feel good. Moving your body and building strength nurtures healthy stress management and helps build resilience to the physiological and psychological effects of chronic stress.
The stress response is an automatic response designed to keep us safe and alive. Stress can have positive impacts on us, such as support motivation, drive, and performance; but when chronic and unmanaged it can lead to unhealthy coping strategies, nervous system imbalances, and related struggles with physical health, emotional health, social health, and mental health.
Exercise builds resilience to chronic stress and is considered vital to elevating and stabilizing mood, improving sleep, decreasing tension, improving focus, regulating body functions, and generally feeling safe and secure. All of these things are often impacted by anxiety and depression.
